Best Time to Visit Sylhet
Sylhet has a subtropical monsoon climate with three clear seasons: a hot, humid summer; a very wet monsoon; and a mild, dry winter. The best time to visit is during the cool, dry winter months when conditions are most pleasant for exploring the tea gardens and hills.
✦ Go in November for the best balance of clear weather, green landscapes, and manageable crowds.
✅ Best months
November through February. Daytime temperatures hover around 20-25°C, skies are generally clear, and humidity is low. This is also when the famous Seven Sisters tea gardens are at their greenest after the monsoon.
🔥 Peak season
December and January. Domestic tourists flood in for holidays and cooler weather. Hotel rates in Sylhet city can double, especially around Christmas and New Year. The Jaflong and Srimangal areas get noticeably crowded on weekends.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
October and March. October sees the tail end of the monsoon but still has clear days and fewer visitors. March is hot (30-32°C) but mostly dry, with hotel prices 30-40% lower than peak. Good for budget travellers who don't mind heat.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
June to mid-September is the monsoon. Heavy daily rain, river flooding, and leeches on trails. Many homestays in rural areas close. But it's the quietest and cheapest time, with some hotels offering 50% discounts.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Rash Mela (February, near Srimangal): a three-day folk festival with traditional music, food stalls, and snake charmers, coinciding with the spring harvest. Also, the annual Tea Festival (December, Srimangal) features plantation tours and tastings.
🧳 What to pack
Light wool layers are essential for winter mornings and evenings, even in the city. Sylhet can drop to 12-15°C in December, and most buildings lack heating.
