Gambia
Best Time to Visit Sukuta
Sukuta, a lively market town on Gambia's coast, has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. The best time to visit is during the long, dry winter, when the weather is reliably sunny and the Harmattan wind keeps things comfortable.
✦ Go between December and February for the best weather, or November for good value.
✅ Best months
December to February. These months offer the most consistent dry weather, lower humidity, and temperatures that rarely top 30°C. Crowds are higher than in the rainy season, but still manageable outside the two main resort areas.
🔥 Peak season
December and January. This is the European winter escape season. Hotels raise rates by 30-50% and flights fill up. The main driver is the combination of perfect beach weather and Christmas/New Year holidays.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
November and March. In November the rains have just stopped, so the landscape is green but it's still dry and warm. March sees rising temperatures but fewer visitors and hotel discounts of 20-30% compared to peak.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
June through October. This is the rainy season, with heavy downpours most afternoons and high humidity. Many smaller hotels close or offer very low rates, but you'll face mosquitoes and patchy transport. It's the quietest, cheapest period.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
The Brikama Craft Market Festival in February showcases local woodcarving and textiles. The Roots Homecoming Festival in June (dates vary) draws diaspora visitors with concerts and heritage events.
🧳 What to pack
Pack a lightweight rain jacket or umbrella if visiting between June and October; showers can be sudden and intense even during the 'dry' morning.
