Best Time to Visit Şəki

Şəki sits at the foot of the Greater Caucasus, so its climate swings from hot, dry summers to cold, snowy winters. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather for exploring the old town and surrounding villages, with fewer tourists than in high summer.

✦ Go in late April to mid-May for the best mix of fine weather, green landscapes and gentle crowds.

✅ Best months

April–May and late September–October. Spring brings blossom and mild days (15–22°C), perfect for walking the caravanserai and palace. Autumn is crisp and bright, with harvest colours and clear skies, ideal for hiking to Kiş or Kish.

🔥 Peak season

July and August. Temperatures often hit 35°C; locals and regional tourists fill the bazaar and restaurants. Hotel prices can double, especially for the few boutique guesthouses. No major festivals, but holiday demand from Baku and Russia drives crowds.

💷 Shoulder (best value)

May and September. Weather is still very good (20–28°C in May, 18–26°C in September), but crowds thin out. You can find 20–30% off rooms in mid-range hotels, and the bazaar feels more relaxed.

🌙 Quietest & cheapest

December–February. Expect rain, snow and daytime highs around 0–5°C. Some guesthouses and the palace museum close or have reduced hours. On the plus side, you can often get a decent room for under £20 a night. Trade-off: many outdoor sights are muffled in grey slush, and the drive from Baku is riskier.
