Switzerland
Best Time to Visit Sitten
Sitten (Sion) sits in the Rhône valley with a surprisingly dry, sunny climate compared to the rest of Switzerland. Winters are cold but often clear, while summers can be hot. The best times to visit are late spring and early autumn, when the weather is most pleasant and the vineyards are at their best.
✦ Go in May or September for the best mix of good weather, fewer people, and reasonable prices.
✅ Best months
May and September – warm sunshine, blooming or harvest-time vineyards, and far fewer visitors than midsummer.
🔥 Peak season
July and August: school holidays and warm weather bring crowds. Hotel prices can double. The main draw is outdoor activities (hiking, biking) and the Fête de l’Escalade in December is a big local event, but that’s in Geneva, not Sion. In Sion, the Fête de la vigne et du vin (if held) or local festivals like the Paléo Festival in Nyon, closer to Sion, drive summer demand.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and October: prices drop 20–30%, weather is cooler but often still good for sightseeing. Fewer tourists make the Old Town and Valère Basilica more enjoyable.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
November and January–February: cheapest rates, but cold and often overcast. Many mountain attractions are closed, though skiing is accessible nearby.

Layer up: even in summer, evenings cool rapidly in the valley. Bring a light jacket or fleece.
