Japan
Best Time to Visit Sendai
Sendai has a mild climate compared to most of Japan, but it still sees four distinct seasons. The city is most pleasant in late spring and autumn, when the weather is dry and comfortable for walking.
✦ Go in May or October for the best weather and manageable crowds.
✅ Best months
May and October. May has warm, sunny days and the tail end of cherry blossom season; October brings crisp air, clear skies, and beautiful autumn foliage without the extremes of summer heat or winter cold.
🔥 Peak season
August (Tanabata Festival) and the first week of May (Golden Week). Hotel prices can double or triple. The Tanabata Festival draws huge crowds for its elaborate decorations and parades.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
June and September. June is the start of the rainy season but sees fewer tourists and lower hotel rates. September is still warm but less humid than August, with cheaper accommodation.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
January and February. The coldest months, with occasional snow and temperatures around 1–5°C. Hotel prices drop significantly, but outdoor sightseeing can be uncomfortable.
