Best Time to Visit Samarkand
Samarkand has a continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are scorching, winters are cold, and spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions for sightseeing.
✦ Go in late April or September for the best mix of good weather, thinner crowds and reasonable prices.
✅ Best months
April, May, September and October are ideal. Temperatures are warm but pleasant for walking the Registan and Shah-i-Zinda, and crowds are still manageable.
🔥 Peak season
July and August are peak months due to European summer holidays. Hotel prices can double. The main draw is the Sharq Taronalari music festival in August, but be prepared for 35–40°C heat.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
Late April to early June and mid-September to October are the sweet spots for budget. Rooms drop 20–30% compared to July–August, and the weather is still good for exploring.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December to February is cheapest but trade-offs are real: temperatures hover around freezing, snow can close some sites, and daylight hours are short.
