Albania
Best Time to Visit Pukë
Pukë sits in northern Albania at about 800 metres, so its climate is more continental than the coast: cold, snowy winters and warm, dry summers. Spring and autumn are short but pleasant, making them the most comfortable windows for hiking and exploring the surrounding mountains.
✦ Go in June or September for the best mix of good weather, open trails and moderate prices.
✅ Best months
June and September. June has long days, wildflowers in bloom and reliable warmth without the peak summer heat. September keeps the good weather but loses the crowds and drops accommodation prices.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. Albanians and diaspora return for summer holidays, and a few European trekkers pass through. Hotels often double their off-peak rates; book well ahead. The main draw is the annual Pukë Sour Cherry Festival in July.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
May and October. May is green and flowery, though rain is still common; October offers crisp air and autumn colours, plus the last decent hiking weather. Both have big discounts on rooms and very few tourists.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December through February. Heavy snow can block mountain roads, and many guesthouses shut entirely. The town is quiet, hotels still open are cheap, but expect sub-zero nights and limited dining options.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Pukë Sour Cherry Festival (July) – a local food and music event that fills the town with stalls, folk performances and plates of cherry-based dishes. It’s the only notable annual event and draws a decent crowd from across the region.
🧳 What to pack
Pack a waterproof jacket regardless of season. Pukë can get sudden summer thunderstorms and its altitude means chilly evenings even in July.
