Best Time to Visit Praya
Praya sits close to Lombok's south coast, so its weather follows the monsoon pattern: dry from May to October, wet from November to April. Most travellers use it as a gateway for Kuta Lombok or the southern beaches, but the town itself gets a distinct mix of heat, humidity and sudden rain depending on the month.

May, June and September. These sit at the start or end of the dry season – clear skies, low humidity and temperatures around 27-30°C. The monsoon rain hasn't begun or has just stopped, and crowds are thin because most tourists aim for July–August peak.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. Both months are dry and sunny, coinciding with European and Australian school holidays. Hotel prices in Praya (and nearby Kuta Lombok) rise 30–50% above shoulder rates. No major events in Praya itself, but the island's surf competitions and beach tourism drive the demand.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
March–April and October–November. You get lower room rates (often 20–40% off peak) and the weather is still mostly good. In March–April you might get late season rain; in October–November the first rain of the wet season can come late. Fewer tourists, and the landscape is green from the preceding rains.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December to February. This is the wettest period, with heavy daily downpours and high humidity. Many smaller hotels close or drop rates by 50% or more. The trade-off is that you'll have the beaches and the town to yourself – if you don't mind travel delays and mud.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Bau Nyale Festival (February/March): a traditional Sasak event on the south coast where people gather to catch sea worms at dawn. Usually near Kuta Lombok, easy from Praya. The Lombok Sembalun Gourmet Festival (September) if you want food and culture, held in the highlands but accessible from Praya.
