Italy
Best Time to Visit Perugia
Perugia has a solid, workable tourist season from spring through autumn, but winter is quieter and cheaper. The city sits on a hill 500 metres up, so evenings can be cool even in summer, and rain is common in spring and autumn.
✦ Come in May or September for the best balance of good weather, manageable crowds, and active cultural life.
✅ Best months
May, June and September. Days are warm but not hot, crowds are manageable, and the city’s main cultural events run in these months.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. High season for Italian holidays and international tourists. Hotel prices jump 30–50% above shoulder rates. The Umbria Jazz Festival in July is a big draw, but the city feels packed and heat can hit 35°C.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and October. You’ll find hotel discounts of 20–30% versus peak, pleasant weather (15–22°C), and fewer people. April can be rainy; October has good light for photography.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
November through February (except Christmas/New Year week). Hotels are cheapest, often 50% off peak rates. Trade-offs: short days, many restaurants close midweek, and you’ll need a coat and umbrella for cold rain or occasional snow.

🧳 What to pack
Always bring a light jacket or pashmina for evenings, even in summer. The hilltop position makes nights cooler than you’d expect for central Italy.
