Best Time to Visit Nuuk
Nuuk’s tourism season is short and defined by the midnight sun in summer and the northern lights in winter. The rest of the year brings snow, wind, and a lot of darkness, which most visitors won’t enjoy unless they’re after a serious winter fix.
✦ Go in July or August for the best weather and daylight; choose September if you want northern lights and lower prices.

July and August offer the mildest weather, highs around 10°C, long daylight hours, and the best chance to see whales and icebergs. June is nearly as good but can still be chilly.
🔥 Peak season
July and especially August are peak months. Hotels fill up and prices jump 20–40% above shoulder-season rates. The Nuuk Marathon (August) and the Greenland National Day (21 June) events drive visitor numbers.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
May and September are the budget sweet spots. Hotels are cheaper, daylight is still reasonable (May: 18+ hours; September: 12+ hours), and the landscape is snow-free but not overrun.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
November to March is the quietest and cheapest period. Temperatures drop to -10°C with frequent storms; January‑February have only 7 hours of daylight. Hotels can be half the summer price but many tours run reduced schedules.
