Best Time to Visit Naters
Naters sits at the foot of the Aletsch Glacier, giving it a microclimate that’s sunnier and drier than much of Valais. The big draw is year-round access to the Aletsch Arena ski area and the Unesco World Heritage site, but the best experience depends heavily on what you want to do.

June and September. June has long daylight, reliable sunshine and the last of the spring wildflowers before summer crowds arrive. September offers stable weather, fewer hikers, and the vineyards above town are golden.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. School holidays across Europe fill the Aletsch Arena trails and the gondolas. Hotel prices peak, and booking a month ahead is standard. The main events are the Naters Dorffest (mid-July) and the annual Bike Valais race (early August).
💷 Shoulder (best value)
May and October. May sees lower rates and fewer guests, though some mountain lifts only open from late May. October is similarly quiet, with discounts of 20–30% on summer rates, but many high-altitude cable cars close after mid-October.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
November (except ski season start). Most tourist infrastructure shuts mid-November until early December. The town is very quiet, and hotel rates are at their annual low, but many restaurants close and the weather is grey and damp.

Top for larch colour walks and discounted autumn hiking, but many lifts stop in mid-October.

Crowds: medium to high (Feb half-term)
Prime ski season; the Belalp cable car runs direct to slopes. Naters’ village is quieter than next-door Brig.

Naters Dorffest (mid-July): three days of live music, local food and folk parades. Aletsch Half-Marathon (late June): a 21km run from Belalp down to Brig with glacier views.
