Best Time to Visit Minas
Minas, the capital of Lavalleja department, sits among low hills about 120 km inland from Montevideo. Its climate is temperate, with distinct seasons and no extreme weather, but rainfall is fairly evenly spread across the year. The decision on when to visit usually comes down to how you feel about humidity and crowds.
✦ Go in October for the best blend of fine weather, fewer crowds, and moderate prices.
✅ Best months
October and November for mild, sunny days and spring wildflowers. March and April also work well: settled autumn weather, lower humidity, and fewer tourists.
🔥 Peak season
January (peak summer). Beach-going crowds from the coast fill the town for its Semana de la Cerveza (beer festival) in late January/early February. Hotel rates can double, and advance booking is essential.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
March to April and October to November. Discounts of 20–30% on accommodation, still warm enough for outdoor activities, and much quieter streets.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
June through August (winter). Cold nights, sometimes single digits °C, and many attractions run reduced hours. But hotel prices drop 50% or more, and you'll often have the countryside to yourself.
