Nicaragua
Best Time to Visit Mateare
Mateare sits on the shores of Lake Managua, with a tropical wet-and-dry climate. The best time to visit is during the dry months from November to April, when you avoid the heavy rains and the heat is more manageable.
✦ Go between December and February for the best weather and minimal rain.
✅ Best months
December, January and February. Dry, sunny days with temperatures in the high 20s°C. Low humidity and almost no rain. Crowds are moderate because most tourists head to the Pacific coast or Granada, so Mateare stays relatively quiet.
🔥 Peak season
Easter (Semana Santa) in March or April. Mateare sees locals and some tourists for the holiday. Prices for hotels and transport can double. The main events are religious processions and beach trips.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
November and March. November is just after the rainy season ends – still green, lower prices, fewer people. March has the Easter peak but the weeks before and after are quiet with good deals.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
September and October. Wettest months. Many hotels offer discounts of 30-50%. But heavy afternoon downpours are almost daily, and roads to the lake can get muddy. Not great for outdoor plans.
