Best Time to Visit Lerik

Lerik sits in the Talysh Mountains at about 1,100 metres, so its climate is milder than the lowlands but still sees sharp seasonal shifts. Summers are warm and green, winters cold and often snowy. The best windows are late spring and early autumn.

✦ Go in May or September for the best balance of good weather, few travellers, and fair prices.

✅ Best months

May and September: stable, pleasant temperatures (18–25°C), low rainfall, and few tourists. June is also good if you want reliably dry weather for hiking.

🔥 Peak season

July and August: domestic tourists arrive to escape Baku's heat. Hotels can double in price, and the main road through the Hirkan National Park gets busy on weekends. The annual Lerik Fruit Festival in late August drives a short spike.

💷 Shoulder (best value)

May and September offer hotel discounts of 20–30% vs peak. Weather is fine for walking, and local guesthouses often have rooms without booking. Crowds are thin.

🌙 Quietest & cheapest

December to February: hotels drop to half peak rates, but days are short, 0–10°C, and mountain roads can ice up. The town feels quiet; some cafes close early.

Lerik season by season

Spring (Mar–May)

Weather: 5–15°C in March, rising to 12–22°C in May. Rain peaks in April.

Crowds: Low

Good for seeing wildflowers in the hills before the summer rush.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Weather: 18–30°C, mostly dry. Cooler than Baku but can still hit 35°C in July.

Crowds: High (July–August)

Best for high-altitude hiking and visiting the local bazaars.

Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Weather: 15–25°C in September, dropping to 5–15°C by November. Clear skies early in the season.

Crowds: Low to moderate

Ideal for photography and forest walks; the autumn colours in Hirkan are striking.

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Weather: 0–10°C, frequent snow, especially in January.

Crowds: Very low

Offers a chance to see the town's snow-capped mountains without crowds, but many trails are inaccessible.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around

Lerik Fruit Festival (late August): a weekend of local fruit tastings, folk music, and a harvest parade. Also notable: Novruz (late March) is celebrated with bonfires and traditional food across the region.

🧳 What to pack

Lerik's altitude means sudden temperature drops after sunset even in summer; always pack a mid-layer and a windproof jacket.
