Best Time to Visit La Punta
La Punta sits on a peninsula jutting into the Pacific, so its weather is dominated by the Humboldt Current: cool, grey, and damp for much of the year, with a brief window of sun and warmth in summer. Your timing depends on whether you want beach weather, clear skies, or quiet streets – you rarely get all three at once.

January and February are the sweet spot: reliably sunny, around 26°C, with the sea warm enough to swim. March also works well, though the crowds thin a little and the water is still pleasant.
🔥 Peak season
January and February are peak. Peruvians take summer holidays, school is out, and the beaches fill. Hotel prices jump 30–50% over the rest of the year, and you need to book two months ahead. The main event is Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen (mid-February) in neighbouring Callao, which draws extra visitors.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
March is the best shoulder month: still warm and sunny, but crowds drop after the first week and prices ease 15–20%. April is cooler and greyer, but rooms are cheap and places are quiet.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
June through August – winter – is the lowest season. Expect persistent grey skies, drizzle, temperatures around 15–17°C, and strong winds. Hotels can be half the summer rate, but you'll trade away any beach time.

Weather: March starts warm (24°C) and sunny; by May it's 18°C, overcast, and damp
Crowds: Medium in March, then low
Good for cheap rooms and quiet walks on the malecón, but beach days are over by late April.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: 15–17°C, grey skies, constant drizzle or mist (garúa), strong sea breeze
Crowds: Low
Only worth it if you're set on cultural tourism – the district is nearly empty, and you get the peninsula to yourself.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: 18–20°C, gradually clearing; November sees more sun and less drizzle
Crowds: Low to medium
Good for photography (the light improves) and for scoring deals before summer prices kick in.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: 22–26°C, sunny mornings, occasional afternoon cloud; sea temperature peaks at 19°C
Crowds: High in Jan–Feb
This is the only time for genuine beach weather – bring sunscreen and swimwear, but expect crowds.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen (mid-February) in Callao – processions, seafood stalls, and live music spilling into La Punta. Also, the Mistura food festival in Lima (September) – a 30-minute drive – is excellent for food travellers.
