Best Time to Visit Kendari

Kendari has a tropical rainforest climate, so it's warm year-round with high humidity. The main variable is rainfall: a wet season from November to May and a drier stretch from June to October. The city is rarely busy with tourists, so crowds aren't a big factor.

✦ Go in August or September for the best combination of dry weather and near-empty beaches.

✅ Best months

August to October: these are the driest months, with less rain and more sunshine. The weather is still hot (28–32°C) but much more reliable for outdoor trips like snorkeling in the Wakatobi or hiking nearby. Crowds are low because Kendari isn’t a mainstream destination.

🔥 Peak season

December to January: this is peak rainy season, but also the time when domestic tourists visit for Christmas and New Year holidays. Hotels can be 20–30% higher than normal, and some flights book out early. The local Pacu Jalur boat races (if held) can draw crowds, but it’s not a major peak.

💷 Shoulder (best value)

May and October: these months sit at the edges of the dry season. You get decent weather with fewer rain days, but prices are lower because demand is lower. May is still fairly wet, but good for cheaper stays. October has the best balance of low rain and low prices.

🌙 Quietest & cheapest

January to March: the wettest period, with heavy downpours nearly every day. Flights and hotels are cheapest, but expect cancelled trips to islands and muddy trails. It’s fine if you’re happy staying in town and eating local food, but not for outdoor adventures.
