Tunisia
Best Time to Visit Kelibia
Kelibia, on Tunisia's Cap Bon peninsula, has a classic Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The sea is the main draw, so the best time depends on whether you want swimming weather, lower prices, or to avoid the August crowds.
✦ Come in June for the best balance of heat, empty beaches, and open facilities.
✅ Best months
May, June, and September. May has warm days and cool evenings, the sea is tolerable for a dip (though still brisk), and crowds are thin. June offers reliable heat and empty beaches. September keeps summer heat but loses the August tourist peak.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. July is persistently hot and dry; August is the busiest month when Tunisian families and European tourists arrive for school holidays. Hotel prices can double. The main driver is the summer holiday season and the warmest sea temperatures (around 27°C in August).
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April, early May, and October. April can still have rain, but rooms cost 30–50% less than peak. October has quieter beaches and mild weather, though sea swimming becomes less appealing toward month's end. Good for sightseeing without the heat.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December through February. It's the cheapest period, but many beachfront restaurants and some hotels close. Daytime highs are 14–17°C, with frequent rain and strong winds. The trade-off: you get Kelibia almost to yourself, but activities are limited to the fort, harbour, and local life.
Kelibia season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Weather: 12–22°C, increasing sun, occasional rain in March
Crowds: low to medium
Great for walking the old town and the Punic fort; wildflowers on the hills.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: 25–33°C, bone-dry, sea 22–27°C
Crowds: high in August, medium in June and July
Beach and swimming peak. Book accommodation months ahead for August.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: 22–28°C in Sep, dropping to 16–20°C by Nov, some rain from October
Crowds: low to medium
September is a sweet spot for sea swimming. October good for food (olive harvest starts) and lower prices.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: 8–17°C, wettest months, windy days
Crowds: low
Many facilities shut. Good for a cheap, quiet break if you don't mind cold sea and indoor evenings.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Festival of the Sea (late July) – a week of music, seafood, and competitions on the beach. Sidi Makhlouf Moussem (August) – a local pilgrimage and fair with traditional markets, though very crowded.
🧳 What to pack
Bring a windproof jacket even in summer; the afternoon sea breeze can be fierce, especially on the harbour front.
