Best Time to Visit Junagadh
Junagadh is hot for most of the year, so the best time to visit is the cool, dry winter. The monsoon brings greenery but also heavy rain, and summer is punishingly hot. Plan around the weather and the Gir lions, which are active year-round.
✦ Go in November or December for the best combination of cool weather, clear skies, and active wildlife, but book accommodation early.
✅ Best months
November to February: temperatures are pleasant (15–30°C), skies are clear, and crowds are manageable outside the Gir safari peak. It's the sweet spot for sightseeing and wildlife.
🔥 Peak season
December–January: peak tourist season. The weather is perfect, driving high demand at Gir National Park and local hotels. Prices can double. The Junagadh Kite Festival in January adds to the buzz.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
October and March: still relatively mild (20–35°C in March). Hotels often have discounts, and crowds are thin. Good for budget travellers who can handle some heat in March.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
June–September: monsoon. Cheap rooms, very few tourists, but heavy rain (800mm+ in July) can disrupt travel to Gir and outdoor sights. The upside is lush landscapes.

Weather: Pleasant: 10–30°C, sunny days, cool nights.
Crowds: High
Best for city tours, Gir safaris, and the Kite Festival (Jan). Book well ahead.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Junagadh Kite Festival (Uttarayan) in January: a colourful, competitive kite-flying event that fills hotels. The Sri Bhavnath Mahadev Fair (February/March) features processions, folk music, and a camel race.
🧳 What to pack
Pack a reusable water bottle and a light scarf: even in winter, the dry heat and dust can be relentless, and you'll want to cover your head during temple visits.
