Pakistan
Best Time to Visit Islamabad
Islamabad is best visited between October and March, when cool, clear weather makes exploring the Margalla Hills and diplomatic enclaves pleasant. Summer monsoons and intense heat (40°C+) render June–August largely inhospitable, whilst spring brings dust storms and haze from agricultural burning across Punjab.
✦ Go in October–November or February for guaranteed comfort, clear skies, affordable rates, and minimal crowds.
✅ Best months
October to November and February to March. Daytime temperatures hover between 15–25°C, humidity is low, skies are clear for hill walks, and hotel occupancy remains moderate enough to avoid peak-season surcharges. March can see occasional dust storms, but generally offers the cleanest air of the year.
🔥 Peak season
March and October are busiest. Spring break tourism, NGO conferences, and favourable weather drive bookings; 4-star hotels command 20–40% premiums. October sees similar demand as visitors flee summer heat. Diplomatic calendar activity (parliamentary sessions, bilateral meetings) also lifts business travel.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
November and February offer the best value. Temperatures remain comfortable (10–20°C), and hotels discount 15–25% against peak rates. Crowds thin noticeably after autumn festivals. February is particularly underrated: crisp, pollution-free days and minimal rain make it ideal for trekking Margalla Hills without the March dust.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
June to August is cheapest (30–50% discounts) but monsoon rains, 38–42°C heat, and 70%+ humidity make sightseeing miserable. January can be cold (5–8°C mornings) and occasionally foggy; budget travellers benefit, but outdoor activities require layering. September remains hot and humid with lingering monsoon risk.
Islamabad season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Weather: 15–28°C; clear mornings, dust storms (Mar–Apr), occasional rain. Air quality deteriorates mid-March due to stubble burning in neighbouring Punjab.
Crowds: high
Ideal for hill hikes early in the month; avoid late March–April for outdoor sightseeing if sensitive to dust.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: 38–42°C, 60–75% humidity, frequent monsoon thunderstorms (especially July–Aug). Air conditioning essential; power cuts occasional.
Crowds: low
Cheapest season but outdoor exploration is inadvisable. Suitable only for travellers with flexible indoor plans or high heat tolerance.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: 20–32°C; September remains humid and warm; October–November are crisp and clear. Minimal rainfall.
Crowds: medium to high
Excellent trekking conditions; October bookings rival spring. November sees marked price drops and thinner crowds.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: 5–18°C; December–January can be foggy (especially mornings); February clears. Occasional light rain; frost on high ground (Margalla peaks).
Crowds: low to medium
Crisp, pollution-free air; ideal for hill walks. January fog can limit sightseeing; bring layers. February is the cleanest month of the year.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Pakistan Day (23 March) brings ceremonial events and flag-raising at key monuments, but coincides with dust season. Lok Virsa Heritage Festival (typically October–November) celebrates traditional crafts and music in a garden setting; worth timing a trip around.
🧳 What to pack
Bring a lightweight scarf or N95 mask for March–April dust storms and January fog; mornings and evenings can be 15°C cooler than afternoons year-round, so layer even in 'warm' seasons.
