Best Time to Visit Hiroshima

Hiroshima has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable times to visit, but summer is hot and humid while winter is mild and quiet.

✦ Go in April for the cherry blossoms and mild weather, or in November for autumn colour and lower crowds.

✅ Best months

March to May and October to November. The weather is mild, cherry blossoms peak in late March–early April, and autumn colours appear in November. Crowds are manageable outside the main holiday weeks.

🔥 Peak season

Late March to early April (cherry blossom season) and the week of Golden Week (late April–early May). Hotels double in price and fill up months ahead. Also busy around the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on 6 August.

💷 Shoulder (best value)

May (after Golden Week) and late October to early November. Warm, dry weather, fewer tourists, and hotel rates 20–30% lower than peak. Good for seeing the Peace Memorial Museum without queues.

🌙 Quietest & cheapest

December to February. Cold but sunny, with clear views of Miyajima’s Itsukushima Shrine. Hotels can be 50% cheaper. Trade-off: shorter daylight hours and some outdoor attractions have reduced hours.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony (6 August) is a solemn, globally significant event. For a lighter experience, the Hiroshima Flower Festival (early May) fills the Peace Park with music, food stalls and parades.

🧳 What to pack

Bring a light rain jacket or umbrella from June to July – the rainy season can be persistent, even when the rest of western Japan is drier.
