Haiti
Best Time to Visit Gressier
Gressier, just west of Port-au-Prince, has a hot, humid climate year-round with a distinct rainy season. The best travel windows avoid both the heavy downpours and the busiest holiday periods.
✦ Go in December or January for the best weather, but book accommodation far ahead.
✅ Best months
December to February: drier, cooler days and manageable visitor numbers, though accommodation can get tight around Christmas. November and March are also good, with lighter showers and fewer tourists.
🔥 Peak season
December (especially around Christmas) and January (New Year) see a surge in Haitian diaspora and domestic visitors. Hotel prices can double; book well in advance. Carnival in February also draws crowds to nearby Léogâne and Port-au-Prince.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
March and November: still fairly dry, hotel rates drop 20-30% below peak, and you miss the main holiday crush. April can work too, though showers increase.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
May–October, especially June and September: the rainiest period with risk of tropical storms. Hotels are cheapest (50%+ discounts) but many beachfront spots close or offer limited services. Good for budget travellers who don't mind afternoon downpours.
Gressier season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Weather: Hot, 28–33°C; rain increases from April, with heavy afternoon showers by May.
Crowds: Low
Good for quiet beach days if you can dodge the rain; hotel bargains possible.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: Very hot, 30–35°C; high humidity; frequent thunderstorms and hurricane risk.
Crowds: Low
Cheapest period, but you'll need flexible plans for storms.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: Still hot, 28–32°C; heavy rain in September–October; November dries out.
Crowds: Low to moderate
A gamble: storms fade by late October, making November a good last-minute option.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: Mildest, 25–30°C; lower humidity; mostly dry.
Crowds: High around Christmas/New Year, moderate otherwise
The most comfortable weather for exploring; book early for December.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Carnival (February/March) features parades and music in nearby Léogâne and Port-au-Prince, but Gressier itself stays low-key. Rara festival (Easter week) brings street processions with bamboo trumpets and drums, a uniquely Haitian experience.
🧳 What to pack
A light rain jacket or umbrella is essential even in the dry months, because tropical showers can appear without warning and pass just as quickly.
