Best Time to Visit Goa

Goa's appeal shifts dramatically across the year: December to February offers perfect beach weather and vibrant tourism, whilst June to September brings monsoon rains, waterlogged beaches, and drastically lower prices. The shoulder months of October–November and March–April provide a middle ground of manageable crowds and decent conditions.

✦ Visit October–November for the optimal balance of weather, manageable crowds, and value; December–January if you accept premium prices for guaranteed sunshine and vibrant beach life.

✅ Best months

October to November. The monsoon has just cleared, leaving lush green landscapes and calm seas. Daytime temperatures settle around 28–32°C, humidity drops noticeably, and hotel rates remain 20–30% below peak season. Crowds are present but manageable—far lighter than December.

🔥 Peak season

December to January. This is peak season: Europeans and domestic tourists flee winter; average daily rates spike 40–60%; beachfront properties often book out weeks ahead. Christmas and New Year drive the surge. February remains busy but slightly quieter as prices dip marginally.

💷 Shoulder (best value)

October to November and March to April. October sees monsoon departure and green vegetation; November solidifies as a sweet spot. March to April offers warm days (29–35°C) and fewer crowds than peak, though late April heat becomes oppressive. Hotel discounts of 25–35% are standard.

🌙 Quietest & cheapest

June to September (monsoon season). Prices drop 50–60%, beaches close to swimmers, some restaurants and shops shut temporarily, and rain is intense and frequent. It's ideal for budget travellers, yoga retreats, and those seeking solitude—but swimming is unsafe and humidity is stifling.

Goa season by season

Spring (Mar–May)

Weather: Starts pleasant (29–32°C); by May, heat climbs to 35–40°C with pre-monsoon humidity. April is the driest month.

Crowds: Low to medium

Comfortable in March; increasingly uncomfortable after April. Good for exploring inland temples and spice plantations before heat peaks.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Weather: Heavy rainfall (300–700mm monthly), temperatures 26–30°C, very high humidity (80–90%). Coastal roads occasionally flood.

Crowds: Very low

Monsoon season; beachgoing is inadvisable. Best for backpackers, wellness retreats, and those embracing Goa's quiet spiritual side.

Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Weather: September still wet; October clears dramatically. Temperatures 26–32°C, humidity drops steadily. November is crisp and clear.

Crowds: Low in Sep–Oct; medium by Nov

Transition period. October–November is arguably Goa's finest window: dry, verdant, and less crowded than winter.

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Weather: Ideal: 20–32°C daytime, low humidity, virtually no rain. Nights can drop to 15–18°C on the coast.

Crowds: Very high

Peak tourist season. Prices are at their highest, beaches packed, but weather is superb for swimming, diving, and all outdoor activities.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around

Goa Carnival (late February): a three-day festival with parades, music, and revelry, coinciding with peak tourism and inflated rates. Christmas and New Year (December 24–January 1) drive the single largest booking surge of the year.

🧳 What to pack

Pack a lightweight waterproof jacket and quick-dry trousers even in dry season—sudden tropical downpours occur, and monsoon (June–August) demands waterproofs that won't rot in 90% humidity.
