Best Time to Visit Gimpo
Gimpo is a satellite city west of Seoul, best visited during spring and autumn when temperatures are mild and humidity is low. Winter is dry and cold; summer is hot, humid, and experiences occasional typhoons. The city itself lacks major tourist draws, so timing matters less here than in Seoul proper, but shoulder seasons offer the most comfortable exploration of its parks and the nearby DMZ-adjacent areas.
✦ Visit in mid-April or October for optimal weather and manageable crowds; avoid July–August unless family logistics demand it.
✅ Best months
September to October (autumn) and April to May (spring). Both offer 15–20°C daytime temperatures, low precipitation, and manageable humidity. Autumn has the added advantage of crisp air and clear skies; spring brings cherry blossoms to local parks, particularly around Hangang Park.
🔥 Peak season
August (summer holidays and school breaks) and December–January (winter holidays). Hotel rates near Seoul's western corridor rise 20–30%; domestic tourists flood Gimpo's limited attractions and the Hangang riverfront. Typhoon season peaks in August, occasionally disrupting travel.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and October deliver near-peak conditions—comfortable weather, few crowds—with discounts of 10–15% on accommodation compared to peak months. May is equally pleasant but slightly warmer and busier as late-spring travel picks up.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
November and February–March. Prices drop 15–25%, and visitor numbers are lowest. Trade-off: November has unpredictable weather (sudden cold snaps); February–March remains cold (2–8°C) and occasionally windy, though it avoids the heaviest snow that affects Seoul more severely.
Gimpo season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Weather: 3–20°C; increasing rainfall from late April onwards. Cherry blossoms peak mid-April.
Crowds: medium
Ideal for riverside walks and parks. Late spring can be humid.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: 22–30°C; high humidity (70%+). Typhoon risk July–September.
Crowds: high
Hot, sticky conditions; most visitors are families. Air quality sometimes compromised.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: 10–25°C; low humidity. September still warm and occasionally rainy; October–November crisp and dry.
Crowds: medium to high (early autumn), dropping sharply by late November
Best overall season. Golden foliage from late October.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: −5 to 5°C; dry with occasional snow and strong winds. Hangang often partially frozen.
Crowds: low to medium (peaks Dec 24–Jan 1)
Cold but stable weather. Clear views. Most budget-friendly outside holidays.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Gimpo Hangang Fireworks Festival (typically August)—popular with Seoul-area residents but draws heat and crowds. Winter illumination displays along Hangang Park (December–January) are low-key but worthwhile if you're in the area.
🧳 What to pack
Bring a lightweight windbreaker year-round; Gimpo's position on the Han River corridor means sudden temperature swings and wind gusts, especially during shoulder seasons and winter.
