Best Time to Visit Garda
Garda sits on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, sheltered by Monte Baldo. Its climate is mild but can be humid in summer, with strong afternoon breezes. The town is a year-round destination, but the best balance of weather and crowds comes outside the main school-holiday periods.

Late April to early June, and September. The lake is warm enough for swimming by late May, the promenades are lively but not jammed, and hotel rates sit well below July–August peaks.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. Italians flock here on holiday, plus lots of Germans and Austrians. Hotel prices jump 40–60% above shoulder-season levels. The main driver is school holidays and the Festa Madonna del Pian (mid-August), which includes a lake procession and fireworks.

Late April, May, and September. You can find 20–30% discounts on rooms. The weather is still good for swimming (especially September), the crowds are thinner, and the midday heat is less oppressive.

Festa Madonna del Pian (mid-August) – a religious festival with a torchlit boat procession across the lake. Also the Garda Jazz Festival (usually late May/early June) – free concerts on the lakeside piazza.

Pack a windproof jacket even in summer: the afternoon Ora wind can be blustery, making it feel cooler than it is on the lakefront.
