Best Time to Visit Fatima
Fatima is a pilgrimage destination first, tourist site second. Crowds track the Catholic calendar closely, so the 'best' time depends on whether you want solemn processions or clear paths. The climate is moderate Atlantic: mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers.
✦ If you want the religious spectacle, go 12–13 May; for decent weather and calm, go late September or early October.
✅ Best months
May and October. May has the spring anniversary of the apparitions (13th) with vibrant crowds but mild weather; October offers the same event with fewer people and still warm days.
🔥 Peak season
May 12–13 and October 12–13 for the main pilgrimage anniversaries. Also the whole month of August. Hotels triple their rates; book six months ahead. The sanctuary is gridlocked.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and November. April is quieter than May but can be showery; November sees the last of the autumn colour and big discounts on accommodation, though days shorten.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December to February, except Christmas and New Year. Cheapest flights and hotels. Trade-offs: cold, rain, short daylight. Some sanctuary chapels have reduced hours. You can have the basilica almost to yourself.

🧳 What to pack
Bring a waterproof jacket and sturdy shoes even in summer – sudden Atlantic showers and hours of standing on stone floors are constants year-round.
