Best Time to Visit Evora
Évora bakes in summer and chills in winter, but the real trick is avoiding the tourist crush while still getting decent weather. The city is compact and walkable, so comfort matters more than any single event.
✦ Go in May for the best balance of warmth and space, or October for a quieter, cheaper version of the same.
✅ Best months
April, May and October. Spring has wildflowers, mild days and fewer queues at the bone chapel. October still brings long, warm afternoons but the summer crowds have vanished.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. Temperatures regularly hit 35°C, hotel prices jump 40-60% and the city fills with day-trippers from Lisbon. The big draw is the Feira de São João fair in late June, which spills into early July.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
March, June and November. March can be damp but rooms are cheap. June has long daylight and just before the peak price hike. November is cooler and very quiet, with discounts of 30% or more on accommodation.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December to February. Tourist numbers drop by 80%. Weather is cold (5-15°C) and often damp. Many restaurants close on Sundays and some attractions have reduced hours. Cheap flights and hotels, but pack for rain.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Feira de São João (late June) – a week of music, parades and bull-running that packs the city. Also the Évora Wine Harvest (early September) for serious tasters.
🧳 What to pack
Always bring a thin fleece or cardigan even in summer: those Roman walls and cathedral interiors stay chilly year-round.
