Best Time to Visit Davos

Davos has two distinct high seasons—winter for skiing and summer for hiking—with shoulder months offering better value. The weather is capricious year-round, so pack layers even in July.

✦ Go in late June or July for hiking, or late January for skiing, but book well ahead for both.

✅ Best months

July and August for reliable mountain weather and alpine walks; January and February if you want guaranteed snow on the slopes.

🔥 Peak season

February (sporting holidays) and August (European summer break). Hotels routinely double in price. The World Economic Forum in late January also spikes demand.

💷 Shoulder (best value)

September and March. Hotel rates drop 30–40%, trails are quieter, and the snow is still skiable in March. September often delivers crisp, clear days for hiking.

🌙 Quietest & cheapest

Late October to early December. Most lifts are closed, restaurants reduce hours, and weather is grey and wet. Very cheap, but you'll be limited to indoor activities.

Davos season by season

Spring (Mar–May)

Weather: 0–10°C, snow at altitude in March, slush lower down; April is muddy and unpredictable.

Crowds: low

Good for late-season skiing (March) or quiet hiking in May when the valley greens up.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Weather: 10–20°C, sunny spells, occasional thunderstorms; warmest in July.

Crowds: high

Prime hiking and mountain-biking season. The Jakobshorn and Parsenn lifts run for walkers and bikers.

Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Weather: 5–15°C in September, dropping to 0–8°C by November; often foggy in October.

Crowds: low

September is the sweet spot for clear trails and lower prices. October is quiet but dull.

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Weather: -5 to 5°C, reliable snow cover above 1500m; January can be bitterly cold at night.

Crowds: high

Excellent skiing on Parsenn and Jakobshorn. February is busiest, but the snow is at its best.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around

World Economic Forum (late January) swamps the town with security and VIPs. Davos Festival (summer) offers classical and jazz concerts in alpine venues.

🧳 What to pack

Carry a waterproof jacket and warm mid-layer year-round; even July afternoons can turn cold and rainy above 2000m.
