Best Time to Visit Daegu
Daegu has a continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, winters dry and cold. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring the city.
✦ Go in late April for cherry blossoms and spring warmth, or late October for autumn colour and milder crowds.
✅ Best months
April to May and October. Spring brings mild temperatures and cherry blossoms; October has crisp air, clear skies, and autumn foliage. Crowds are moderate and accommodation is reasonably priced.
🔥 Peak season
April (cherry blossom season) and late October (autumn leaves). Hotels can be 30–50% more expensive; book well in advance. The Daegu International Musical Festival (May) also draws visitors, but the main driver is the foliage and festival calendar.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
May and September. May still has decent weather but fewer tourists than April; September sees the tail end of summer heat but lower rates. Both offer quieter sightseeing and some hotel discounts.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December to February. Temperatures drop to around -5°C to 5°C; dry and often overcast. Hotel prices can be half of peak rates. Trade-offs: some outdoor attractions are less appealing, but indoor sites like museums and spas are accessible without crowds.
Daegu season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Weather: 10–20°C; generally mild with occasional rain and wind
Crowds: medium
Best for cherry blossoms and outdoor walks; Apsan Park and the Duryu Park area are popular.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: 25–32°C, high humidity, monsoon rains in late June/July
Crowds: low
Good for indoor activities (museums, department stores) and local food experiences; the Bibimbap Festival is in October, so summer has no major festivals.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: 15–25°C in Sep, dropping to 5–15°C by Nov; clear and dry
Crowds: medium to high in Oct
Ideal for hiking and temple visits (Donghwasa, Haeinsa). Autumn foliage peaks in late October.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: -5–5°C; dry, sunny days but cold nights
Crowds: low
Cheap accommodation and fewer tourists; good for hotpot and indoor cultural sites like the Daegu Modern History Museum.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Daegu International Musical Festival (May) and Daegu Bibimbap Festival (October). The musical festival fills theatres across the city; the bibimbap event is a free, food-focused fair in the central district.
🧳 What to pack
Pack a windproof layer for spring and autumn; the open valley location can create unexpected gusts, especially in March and late October.
