Best Time to Visit Chengdu
Chengdu's climate is mild year-round, but its heavy cloud cover and frequent drizzle can catch you out. The city is manageable any month, but for the best balance of clear skies and comfortable temperatures, the window is narrow.

April and October. Spring brings cherry blossoms and comfortable 15–22°C temps; autumn offers crisp air and low rainfall. Both months dodge the worst of the crowds.
🔥 Peak season
October (Golden Week, 1st-7th) and May (Labour Day, 1st-5th). Hotels can double in price, and major sites like the Panda Base are packed. Chinese domestic tourism peaks here.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
March, November and early December. Temperatures are still pleasant (10–18°C), hotel rates drop 30–40%, and the crowds thin noticeably after Golden Week.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
January–February (excluding Chinese New Year). Coldest, greyest months, but also cheapest. Many outdoor attractions are quiet; the trade-off is constant overcast skies and single-digit temperatures.

Weather: 3–10°C, grey, occasional frost, no snow.

Cheapest flights/hotels, but many outdoor spots feel dreary.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Chengdu Panda Base's breeding season (April–June) gives best chance to see cubs. For culture, the Lantern Festival (February, date varies) lights up the old town.
