Best Time to Visit Bursa
Bursa has a pronounced four-season climate: hot, dry summers; cold, snowy winters; and two mild, rainy shoulder seasons. The city also draws domestic crowds for ski tourism in winter and the cherry festival in summer, so timing matters.
✦ Go in May or late September for the best balance of comfortable weather, low crowds, and reasonable prices.
✅ Best months
May and late September to mid-October: daytime highs of 20-25°C, minimal rain, and far fewer people than July or August. The city feels spacious, the markets are comfortable, and Uludağ is visible without heat haze.
🔥 Peak season
July–August: domestic tourists fill hotels for summer holidays and the İznik Cherry Festival (late June). Hotel prices jump 40-60% on Booking.com and Expedia vs. May or October. Also, August is humid and can hit 35°C.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and early June: temperatures 18-22°C, rain still possible but not constant. Hotels 20-30% cheaper than peak summer. April has blooming tulips in public parks; June has the cherry festival peak without August's heat.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
December–February: coldest and wettest, with frequent snow in the city (not just Uludağ). Hotels drop 40-50% from summer rates. Good if you want skiing at Uludağ, but city sightseeing is cold and slushy.
Bursa season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Weather: 8-22°C, increasing rain in April, occasional thunderstorms
Crowds: low to medium
Best for walking the city bazaars and cable car up Uludağ without crowds.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: 25-35°C, very humid, occasional afternoon storms
Crowds: high
Ok for early mornings or late evenings at the Grand Mosque and Koza Han; midday is brutal.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: 15-28°C in Sep, dropping to 10°C by Nov; rain returns
Crowds: low to medium
September is the sweet spot: warm but not oppressive, with harvest markets.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: 0-10°C, frequent rain and snow, fog common
Crowds: low in city, high on Uludağ ski slopes
City is quiet, but Uludağ is packed with Turkish skiers on weekends and school holidays.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
İznik Cherry Festival (late June) – the city's biggest event, with concerts and food stalls; Uludağ Ski Season (December–March) – draws domestic ski tourists to the slopes and hotel demand.
🧳 What to pack
Pack layers even in summer – the mountain breeze on the cable car and at Uludağ can be 10°C cooler than the city centre, especially at dusk.
