Best Time to Visit Biella

Biella sits at the foot of the Alps in northern Piedmont, so its seasons are clear-cut: cold, damp winters and warm, often sunny summers. The city is quiet year-round compared to Turin, but the best time to visit is late spring or early autumn when the weather is pleasant and the surrounding hills are at their best.

✦ Go in May or September for the best balance of good weather, fewer crowds, and reasonable prices.

✅ Best months

May and September. In May, the hills are green and the temperatures are mild (15–25°C). September offers similar warmth with harvest-season activity in the vineyards and fewer tourists.

🔥 Peak season

August, when Italians take their holidays. Hotels fill with families heading to the Alpine foothills and prices rise noticeably. The main driver is the Ferragosto holiday (15 August) and the Sagra di San Giovanni (late June) also brings crowds.

💷 Shoulder (best value)

June and October. June has long days, warm weather (20–28°C) and lower room rates than August. October is cooler (8–18°C) but the autumn foliage in the Oropa Valley is stunning, and prices drop significantly after September.

🌙 Quietest & cheapest

December to February. The city is dead quiet, many restaurants close for weeks around Christmas, and temperatures often hover near freezing with fog. Trade-offs: low prices and skiing at nearby Oropa (open Dec–Mar, subject to snow).

🧳 What to pack

Biella's elevation (420m) means cool evenings even in summer: always bring a light jacket or fleece, regardless of the forecast.
