Peru
Best Time to Visit Ayacucho
Ayacucho sits high in the Peruvian Andes, so its weather is mild and dry for most of the year, with a distinct rainy season from November to March. The dry months from May to October offer the clearest skies and most comfortable conditions for exploring the city and its surrounding ruins.
✦ Go in May or September for perfect weather without the crowds.
✅ Best months
May, June, September. These months combine dry, sunny days with manageable crowds, avoiding the peak of the rainy season and the busiest festival periods.
🔥 Peak season
July. This coincides with the Fiestas Patrias (Peruvian Independence Day celebrations) and the start of the winter school holidays, pushing hotel prices up by 30-50%. The weather is excellent, but the city gets crowded.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and October. In April the rains are fading, and in October the dry season lingers. Both offer lower rates, quieter streets, and still-good weather.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
February. It's the rainiest month, with frequent afternoon downpours. Few travellers come, so hotels slash prices, but you'll need good rain gear and some flexibility with plans.

🧳 What to pack
Pack layers: a fleece or jacket for cool mornings and evenings, plus a sun hat and sunscreen for strong daytime UV even in the dry season.
