Italy
Best Time to Visit Arezzo
Arezzo has a genuine Tuscan rhythm—busy during its famous antiques fair and quiet otherwise. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers and chilly, damp winters, but the city's hilltop position keeps it breezier than Florence.
✦ Go in May or September for the best balance of warmth, low crowds, and full cultural access.
✅ Best months
May and September: warm days (22-26°C), low humidity, and few tourists. The first weekend of September also sees the Giostra del Saracino joust, which animates the town without the August crush.
🔥 Peak season
June and August. August is Ferragosto season—Italians on holiday, hotels at 1.5x-2x normal rates, and streets crowded. June is busy with school trips and events. July is hot and crowded but slightly cheaper than August.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and October: decent weather (15-20°C), 20-30% lower hotel prices, and far fewer visitors. April can be rainy; October brings harvest colours and truffle menus.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
November to February (excluding Christmas/New Year). Hotel prices drop 40-50%, but many restaurants close for winter breaks. Weather: 5-12°C, grey, frequent drizzle. The trade-off is near-empty museums and genuine local life.
Arezzo season by season

Evenings are lively, but midday heat is intense. The Giostra del Saracino (third weekend June & first weekend September) draws crowds.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: September 20-26°C, sunny; October 14-20°C, cooling; November 8-14°C, rainy

Best for truffle and chestnut festivals in nearby villages. First weekend of every month: antiques fair continues.

Quiet, atmospheric. Christmas markets in December. Some museums have shorter hours.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Giostra del Saracino (third Saturday of June and first Sunday of September) – medieval jousting in Piazza Grande. Fiera Antiquaria (first weekend of every month) – Tuscany's biggest antiques market.
🧳 What to pack
Bring layers year-round: even summer evenings can be cool on the hilltop, and winter needs a good waterproof coat – umbrellas often flip inside out in the wind.
