Things to Do in Bauru

The city's main Catholic cathedral, built in a striking modernist style with a tall, slender bell tower. The interior is light and airy with stained-glass windows. Worth a 15-minute visit.

💡 Go during a weekday mass (usually 7am or 6pm) to hear the excellent choir. The square outside has benches and a few food vendors. Silence is expected during services.

The city's main market building, full of fruit and vegetable stalls, butchers, bakeries, and small eateries. Great for a cheap lunch (try the pastel or a lanche) and a taste of local life.

💡 Head to the back section for the cheapest fruit. The upstairs food court has a few hidden family-run spots serving excellent, affordable comida por quilo. Busiest Saturday mornings.

A small but well-curated museum housed in a historic coffee warehouse. Tells the story of Bauru's coffee-growing past with original machinery, photographs, and artefacts. Takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

💡 Free admission but they appreciate a small donation (R$5-10). The guide on duty is usually a local historian — chat with them, they have great stories. Closed for lunch 12:00-14:00.

A large, well-maintained urban park with a lake, walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, and plenty of shaded grassy areas. Popular with locals for exercise and picnics.

💡 Sunset here is spectacular — the light on the water draws photographers. Weekday mornings are very quiet. Bring water and snacks as on-site kiosks are limited.

A well-kept municipal zoo with a focus on Brazilian wildlife. Set in a large, shady park with walking paths and a lake. Good for a relaxed couple of hours.

💡 Entry is very cheap (around R$5-10, often free on certain days like Tuesdays — check local social media). Arrive early morning or late afternoon when animals are most active.
