Things to Do in Barishal

The main riverfront promenade along the Kirtankhola River, south of the city centre. Concrete steps lead to the water, where fishing boats and ferries pass. A good spot for people-watching.

💡 Come at dusk when the ferry terminal lights reflect on the water. Vendors sell puffed rice and chola (chickpea snacks) for 10 taka.

A small, well-maintained park in the centre of town. Has benches, shaded paths, and a central fountain. Popular with families and elderly locals. No entry fee but minimal charge for the pond-side walkway.

💡 Go early morning (6-7am) to see locals doing tai chi and yoga. The park closes for a couple of hours after noon.

A public park built around a historic pond, with an ornamental gate and paved walkways. Less crowded than Bell's Park. The pond has a central island with a small gazebo.

💡 Best for a morning chai—the tea stall near the southeast corner uses fresh ginger. Avoid after 9pm as the area can get rowdy.

A sprawling 75-acre campus with wide lawns, ponds, and old trees. Students and locals walk, jog, or sit by the lakes. Good for a quiet afternoon away from the city noise.

💡 Visit late afternoon for cooler temperatures and views of the sunset over the water. The canteen sells cheap tea and snacks near the main gate.

A small government museum in a colonial-era building. Displays pottery, coins, and stone carvings from Buddhist and Hindu periods, mostly found in the region. No English labels but staff can explain.

💡 Ask the guard to unlock the back section—there's a dusty cabinet with coins from the 16th century. Photography is allowed, but no flash.
