Things to Do in Amparo

The main Catholic church in Amparo, dating from 1838. Neo-Gothic architecture, stained-glass windows, and a peaceful interior. The square outside has benches and shade.

💡 Visit during a weekday mass (6pm) to hear the organ, but sit at the back – the sound is best there.

A pedestrianised street lined with colourful colonial houses, cafes and small shops. Good for a stroll and photos. The cobblestones and old lampposts add character.

💡 Come early on Saturday morning when the street market sets up – you can buy fresh fruit and local cheese.

Hilltop park with a large Christ statue, panoramic views over Amparo and the surrounding hills. Benches, walking paths, and a small chapel. Good for sunset.

💡 Bring water and wear sturdy shoes, the climb from the car park is steep but short. Best visited on clear days.

Housed in a former prison, this museum displays local history, artefacts and art. Exhibits include old photographs, furniture, and tools from the city's coffee and railroad era.

💡 Go on the first Sunday of the month for the free guided tour, which explains the building's cells and original features.

Small museum inside a former chapel, displaying religious art, statues, vestments and silverware from the 18th and 19th centuries. Quiet and rarely busy.
